450SquadronRAAF  > Publications > Six O'Clock Diamond
Although Gus left us in 2006 his manuscript was not forgotten, instead it was very much brought back to life by his sons John & David who have painstakingly and very carefully ensured that no detail was lost.

A beautifully hard cover bound (with slip cover) book which includes 206 professionally edited pages with black & white photos scattered throughout the chapters and wonderfully illustrated maps of the Western Desert and Eastern Mediterranean.

Although Gus left us in 2006 his manuscript was not forgotten, instead it was very much brought back to life by his sons John & David who have painstakingly and very carefully ensured that no detail was lost.

A brief summary of Gus Officer’s family background is included in Chapter 1, giving us some insight into the boy who became a man in the following chapters, which cover his life changing experience as a Pilot and POW whilst serving his country with the 450 Squadron RAAF.

In the Foreword, Air Vice-Marshal Peter J Scully RAAF (Rtd) AO, states

“ Gus has told his story, in what we might call today a ‘warts and all’ account.
His recall of detail is astounding and his personal views are forcefully expressed.
Certainly the most frank account of personal experiences of those days I have encountered…”

A wonderful tribute to a wonderful man.
A publication worthy of taking it’s pride of place in every library.
A must-to-read for all interested members of our association, their children, and their children’s children.

Congratulations once again to both John and his brother David, very proud Children of the 450,
and many thanks to them both for allowing us the opportunity
to share the legacy of their wonderful father.
